February is upon us, and with it another slew of free Xbox One and Xbox 360 games for Xbox Live Gold subscribers.
It’s not a bad lineup, either, with quite a bit of variety from one game to the next.
Microsoft hands out two Xbox One titles and two Xbox 360 titles to subscribers each month, and the really nice thing about this for Xbox One players is that the Xbox 360 titles are almost always backwards compatible. That’s the case this month, too.
Let’s check out the upcoming free Games With Gold:
- Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon (Feb 1st-28th)
- Super Bomberman R (Feb 16th – March 15th)
Xbox 360 (backwards compatible)
- Assassin’s Creed Rogue (Feb 1st – 15th)
- Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy (Feb 16th – 28th)

Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon is a retro Castlevania-style game from storied game developer Koji Igarashi and something of a stopgap while we wait the arrival of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. Fortunately it’s received rave reviews from critics and gamers alike and now you can play it for free on Xbox One.
As for Super Bomberman R from Konami, I haven’t played it yet so I can’t really say one way or another. But hey, it’s free so you may as well give it a shot.
I’m also excited to see Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Rogue land on Xbox Games With Gold next month. The game was the last-gen release that flew under the radar when Unity was released on PS4 and Xbox One, but in many ways it’s the better game. It’s a solid sequel to Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, and has many of that game’s piratical charms.
Also worth noting: Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy may not be anything close to a new Star Wars game, but since EA has pretty much made “new Star Wars game” little more than wishful thinking, it’s about as close as you’re going to get . . . .
In any case, you can see the games still available for free on Xbox for January here. Check out Sony’s free PS+ games for February here.
Interesting side-note: Sony is giving away both a Ubisoft and a Konami game this month also. What are the chances?
