OnePlus Android 10 Beta & Update Info (2019)

OnePlus Android 10 Beta & Update Info (2019) is a post by Cory Gunther from Gotta Be Mobile.

If you’re wondering “when will my OnePlus phone get Android 10?” or an Android 10 beta here’s what you need to know. The Android Q beta had over 15 phones from several manufacturers testing it, including OnePlus.

As a result, they had plenty of time to work on updates, which is why the first official OnePlus Android 10 update is already available for the OnePlus 7, as of September 19th, and more are coming soon.

In September, OnePlus released its first Oxygen OS 10 beta and a second open beta a few weeks later. The update is officially known as Oxygen OS 10, based on Android 10. That’s just one phone though, so here’s what we know about all OnePlus Android 10 updates.

They released Android 10 just two weeks after Google did

Will My OnePlus Phone Get Android 10?

Android 10 officially arrived on September 3rd for Google devices, but most other manufacturers won’t release it for a while longer. That said, OnePlus already confirmed the update for the aging OnePlus 5 and 5T, the 6 series, its OnePlus 7 Pro, and it’ll debut on the OnePlus 7T in October.

Basically, the company confirmed that most of its new features that debuted on the OnePlus 7 Pro will make their way down to older smartphones. Then, after that announcement, they gave older device owners a sigh of relief by confirming Android 10 for the OnePlus 5 and 5T.

We did see the 3-year old OnePlus 3 from 2016 get Android 9 Pie recently, which was impressive, but most likely that’s the last update for those phones. We don’t think the 3 or 3T will get Android 10. Any and all newer phones will, however.

    OnePlus Android 10 Betas

Impressively enough, three smartphones from OnePlus can try Android Q today. Those are the OnePlus 6, 6T, and the OnePlus 7/7Pro. OnePlus isn’t moving as fast as Google, and have only released Developer Preview 3 and a 4th preview for the OnePlus 6/7.

More importantly, the same day Google released Android 10 OnePlus released an “Android 10 open beta 1” for the OnePlus 7 Pro, then a second version a few weeks later. And surprisingly enough, just a few days after the 2nd beta, the company decided it was ready for primetime. If you have the OP7 you can get Android 10 already.

    OnePlus Android 10 Release Date

Keep in mind that manufacturers like OnePlus can’t deliver it the same day as Google. Well, aside from Essential. Not to mention they typically don’t announce dates or even share an ETA. That said, Google released Android 10 on September 3rd, and surprisingly it took OnePlus less than three weeks to deliver the first official version.

Yes, the first official and “stable” Android 10 update for a OnePlus device hit the OnePlus 7 on September 19th. Other devices have a little bit longer to wait. We were expecting it sometime in November, so this is big news. Older devices should get it within the next month or two, and hopefully other manufacturers deliver software upgrades faster this year too.

Remember, don’t expect OnePlus phones to get the update right away this month, either. While they run a pretty clean stock Android experience, there are lots of features and controls that must be added from OnePlus to complete the experience. That takes time, often upwards of 2-4 months.

There is a small chance we could see Android 10 official for the OnePlus 7 as soon as October, but we’ll have to wait and see.

    What’s New in Android 10

Google revealed tons of exciting snippets about the improvements, faster Assistant, live actions, caption controls, a system-wide dark theme mode and more. Dark Mode thanks to Android 10 — on the OnePlus 7 Pro

A lot of the fancy features of the OnePlus 7 Pro will get added to the Android 10 release, then dispersed to all capable smartphones from the company. Every year they make changes, tweaks, improvements or further refine the experience to suit their devices. We’ll see that again with Android 10. Then, we might see even more when the OnePlus 7T Pro arrives running Android 10 out of the box.

    Final Thoughts & What’s Next

In closing, we want to remind OnePlus owners that while we’re already seeing one update arrive, don’t expect older devices to get it quite as fast, even if OnePlus is one of the best in the industry. Google pushes the software out, then manufacturers have to get it ready for multiple devices. OxygenOS 10 is a big update for the company and will take time to develop, test, tweak for each device, then get delivered.

We knew Android 10 could arrive earlier than older updates thanks to all the work Google did to make it easier for manufacturers, and so far we’re seeing exactly that. Hopefully the OnePlus 6 gets Android 10 in early October, but don’t hold your breath.

You can help speed up and improve this process by joining the beta. Just know that your phone may experience a few bugs or problems as they fix things over time.

Most of the devices that joined Google for the beta test will probably start getting official updates to Android 10 in November and December. That’s just the way it goes. Essential phone released Android 10 the same day as Google, and OnePlus did it two weeks later, but they’re the only ones. We seriously doubt Samsung will be anywhere near that fast. We’re glad to see OnePlus deliver this so quick, as long as there aren’t a lot of bugs and problems. Quality is more important than being first.

Watch for OnePlus to share more information in the near future, and when they do we’ll have all the details. If you have the OnePlus 7 Pro enjoy Android 10, and for everyone else, sit tight and it’ll be here soon enough.
