League of Legends Season 9 starts in just a couple of days, giving players the chance to climb the ladder and prove they are the best. Ranked play can be the most stressful and rewarding time in a MOBA player’s life. You can climb up to the top of Challenger off your one-trick Yasuo skills, or end up a Bronze-tier scrub who just can’t catch a break. Your play determines how far you go, regardless of how many times you blame your teammates.
When Does League of Legends Season 9 Ranked Start?
Ranked play for Season 9 of League of Legends will start on January 23 at around 2 p.m. EST. The season will officially kick off when patch 9.2 hits servers, giving users the chance to grind for that sweet LP.
Ranked Changes for 2019
League of Legends ranked play is getting some major additions in 2019:
- Two new ranks have been added to the ranked system. Iron will be at the bottom, finally making Bronze players feel superior to something. Grandmaster now ranks between Master and Challenger. Riot felt that players were being shoehorned into tiers that actually weren’t a great fit.
- Tier five is no longer, now ranks only have four tiers. Bronze V is a meme that is dead forever.
- Placement games give you a provisional rank after your first game. Each consecutive win will earn you a massive amount of LP, but you won’t lose any when you lose. This should make placements feel less like a frustrating gamble. You’ll know where you end up, which is a nice change.
