Here are all the different ways you can upgrade or play Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales on PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5.
Reviews for Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales dropped earlier this week and it sounds like PlayStation fans are in for quite another exciting adventure. But how you choose to experience that adventure can be a little confusing, especially since the game will be releasing on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 simultaneously. As we head into the next generation, the one question surrounding new releases is whether or not you can play the PS4 version on PS5, or if there is some sort of free (or paid) upgrade option.
With Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, you’re actually able to upgrade from the PS4 to the PS5 at no extra cost. Regardless of whether or not you buy the PS4 version as a physical disc or digital download, the PS5 version you will receive will be digital. However, claiming your PS5 version depends greatly on which PS4 version you own and could be impacted by the PlayStation 5 console you buy.
If you buy the physical copy of the PS4 version of the game, the only way you can take advantage of the free upgrade is if you have a PlayStation 5 console with Ultra HD Blu-Ray disc drive. Since the PS5 Digital Edition doesn’t come with a disc drive, there would be no place to put the disc. And you need the disc to claim the digital version of the PS5 version of the game.
To obtain your upgrade, you will need to insert your PS4 Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales game disc into your PlayStation 5 console with Ultra HD Blu-Ray disc drive, navigate to the Game Hub and select the upgrade offer to download a digital version of the PS5 version of the game, which you can then play while your PS4 disc is in the drive.
With a digital copy of the PS4 version of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, the upgrade path is much simpler.
…you can simply navigate to the Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Game Hub on your PS5 console and select the upgrade offer to download the PS5 version. Note: you will need to log into your PS5 console with the same PlayStation Network account that you were using when you purchased the PS4 version of the game.
What’s also cool is that the digital copy of a PS5 edition of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales also allows you to download the standard PS4 version of the game. So if you plan on buying a PlayStation 5 but not at launch (or you’re waiting for it to arrive), you can still play the game on PS4. There’s also a save export feature from PS4, so you can bring your saved game progress over with you to PS5.
Now, let’s say you haven’t played Marvel’s Spider-Man yet (I’m talking about the one starring Peter Parker). You can get it remastered for PS5 as part of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition.
