Bing is a web search engine owned by Microsoft. Bing was brought into the market to replace Live Search. It was launched in January 2009, and in the same year, the search engine started supporting Yahoo search. In 2011, the company integrated ‘Tiger’ index-serving technology, the following year, Microsoft came with another update with a sidebar.
Recently, Microsoft revealed the review of its 2018 Bing ad quality where it disclosed the 2018’s data and efforts taken to develop and improve the search engine experience along with its advertising products.
As per the 2018 data, Bing is the third largest search engine in the world; Google is the largest and Baidu being the larger one than Bing.
Now, in 2019 the company has made one more announcement stating that it has stopped and suspended around 200,000 accounts its ad platform named Bing Ads Platform. In 2017 also company had taken a similar step in which around 100,000 accounts were banned. Plus the search engine has removed 900 million bad ads along with 300,000 bad sites from their platform. Among the ads banned from the network include over 5 million advertisements which are related to cryptocurrency.
The new report said that the crypto market as an asset class witnessed a bullish trend last year which increased its value by many times.
Bing Ads Platform has therefore decided to block the cryptocurrency related advertisement or related content from its platform and has taken the step seriously.
Last year also Bing had banned cryptocurrency-related advertising on its platform following the similar decision taken by Facebook, and Google. Even twitter took the same decision. Bing did not forget to express its opinion on the potential risk involved in dealing with or promoting un-governed assets where chances of scams, hacks, and stealing are more.
Many online advertising platforms have made their restrictions lose after Facebook formally announced that it would allow ads promoting “cryptocurrency and related content from pre-approved advertisers.” However, many websites still suspend initial coin offering (ICO) and binary options advertising.
At present, it is not clear whether Bing will adopt a similar perspective towards the crypto world as the report by Bing is emphasizing on continuing to take strict action on the quality and user protection.
Cryptocurrency and the crypto market are treated as something scandalous even after almost a decade of its invention. Different governments and organizations follow different policies which might or might not allow this new-gen technology and currency to be promoted or talked about on their platform.
Crypto technology has a long way to go for sure.
