  • Samsung is reportedly planning to supply Oppo, Vivo, and Xiaomi with Exynos processors.
  • It’s believed that the processors will be used in the brands’ budget phones in H1 2021.

Samsung is no stranger to offering its processors to other Android phone manufacturers, with Vivo recently using Samsung Exynos 980 and Exynos 880 chipsets in some of its phones. Now, it looks like the Korean company may have two more major Chinese manufacturers as partners.

Business Korea reports (h/t: Gizmochina) that Samsung is planning to supply its Exynos processors to Oppo and Xiaomi in 2021, in addition to Vivo once again. More specifically, the outlet says these processors will be used in some of the firms’ budget phones in the first half of the year.

The publication reports that Samsung LSI has started to reduce the supply of Exynos chipsets to Samsung’s wireless business division (ostensibly the smartphone unit) due to low profit margins and has been seeking new customers.

Business Korea adds that Xiaomi and Oppo sought Exynos chipsets as they need more processors in order to expand production in light of Huawei’s woes. It’s also believed that the Exynos processors were competitively priced for the manufacturers.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about brands attempting to take advantage of Huawei’s US-related troubles though. Recent reports point to Samsung planning to launch the Galaxy S30 series earlier than usual as a response to the Chinese brand’s situation.

In any event, we already know that Samsung plans to announce its Exynos 1080 processor on November 12 in China, presumably coming as a follow-up to the Exynos 980. The company previously confirmed to Android Authority that the new chipset is packing the latest Cortex-A78 CPU and Mali-G78 GPU.

We’ve contacted Samsung regarding this latest report but the firm told us that it doesn’t comment on customer-related matters. Would you buy a budget phone with an Exynos processor over the same phone with a Qualcomm chipset? Let us know via the poll above.
