What Twitch content can I download?
Two types: VODs (past broadcasts up to 14 days for affiliates, 60 days for partners) and clips (short highlights up to 60 seconds). Both download as MP4 with synchronized audio.
Why are some Twitch VODs muted?
Twitch mutes 30-second segments when copyrighted music is detected in the VOD. The muted section downloads as silent audio - there is no way to restore the original audio after Twitch has muted it. Original live streams had the audio, but the saved VOD does not.
Can I download sub-only Twitch VODs?
No. Subscriber-only VODs require a Twitch subscription to the channel. We do not support downloading sub-only content. Only public VODs and public clips work.
What Twitch download quality is available?
Source quality (1080p60, 720p60, etc.) is what the streamer broadcasted. We pull the original - if a VOD was broadcast at 1080p60, you get 1080p60 MP4. Low-quality (160p, 360p) re-encodes are also available.
Does the downloader work for Twitch clips?
Yes. Use the dedicated Twitch Clip Downloader and paste the clips.twitch.tv URL, or this main downloader accepts both VOD (twitch.tv/videos/ID) and clip URLs.
Can I download an ongoing Twitch Live stream?
No. Twitch Live streams must end before the VOD is available for download. Some streamers disable VOD storage entirely - those streams cannot be downloaded from Twitch after the fact. Use a screen recorder during the live stream if you need the content.
How do I download Twitch on iPhone?
Open this page in Safari on iPhone, paste the Twitch VOD or clip URL, tap Download. The file saves to Files - tap "Save to Photos" to move to camera roll.
How long does a Twitch VOD download take?
A 1-hour 1080p60 VOD is around 1.5 GB and downloads in 5-15 seconds on a 100Mbps connection. Very long VODs (8+ hours) take a few minutes. The file downloads as a single MP4 stitched from Twitch's HLS chunks.
Why does my Twitch download say "VOD expired"?
Twitch deletes VODs after 14 days (affiliates) or 60 days (partners). If the VOD has been deleted, the URL returns 404 and cannot be downloaded. Subscribing to the channel sometimes gives you extended VOD access.
Can I download Twitch chat alongside the VOD?
No. Twitch chat downloads as a separate text/JSON file with our tool - it does not get baked into the MP4 video. Use streamlink + streamlink-twitch-gui if you need a chat overlay burned into the video.
Is downloading Twitch VODs legal?
Downloading public VODs for personal offline viewing is generally fine. Re-streaming, re-uploading to YouTube, or monetizing someone's Twitch content without permission violates Twitch terms. Always credit the original streamer.
Can I download Twitch highlights and uploads?
Yes. Highlights (curated VOD sections) and uploads (manually-uploaded videos) download the same way - paste the twitch.tv/videos/ID URL. Both download as original-quality MP4.
